MURDER CAPITAL OF THE WORLD
Slayer's Audiotape #43 - Subject: Sam Emerson
“It’s amazing how much can happen in seven years. When you sit down and think about it, that’s really not so long. Funny how it can seem like forever. Grandpa died just about two years ago. Sad yeah, family and all, but then again, Mike and I weren’t ever that close to him. It’s still a little freaky to think that he knew everything that was going on the whole time. And I don’t care what anyone says, I still think he was a friggin’ alien. He did help us save Santa Carla, and Mom. We couldn’t have taken down Max without him.
Everything was back to normal. For a while anyway. We spent at least a year fixing up the ranch…we couldn’t afford renovations, so Mike and I did it ourselves. Nonstop ball-busting slave labor…not to mention we had to clear out the bodies. Edgar and Alan took two of them, the twisted sister wannabe and the one I fried downstairs with the bow and arrow. There wasn’t much left to study, but they insisted. Mike and I took David’s body and drove it out into the desert. For all we knew, he was dead. We thought we’d buried him deep enough. The Frog Brothers spent a good part of a week digging through the rubble in our fireplace. They never found Max’s body. We all just assumed it was incinerated in the explosion. That was our second mistake.
It wasn’t as obvious in the beginning. There were just subtle hints…he was being moody again. He was getting pale. Mom and I dragged him to the doctors; they said he was just anemic. The doc gave him a prescription and he was getting better at first. He kept saying he was just working too hard. Then he started regressing. He quit his lifeguard job down at the beach and stopped going out so much. He said that girl, Star took off. Skipped town with that creepy little kid. He kept himself in his room, he hardly came down for any reason at all. That was when I had my suspicions. Mom had them too, I guess, because a month later she packed up some things and she and I moved away from the ranch. She couldn’t stand seeing Michael like he was. I didn’t want to tell Edgar and Alan, but I couldn’t ignore the possibility that we screwed up somewhere along the line. That somehow, Max was still alive…er…undead…whatever the hell category vampires fall under.
Still, aside from Mike’s relapse, we didn’t see anything too out of the ordinary...
