The history of Red Valley
Long ago when all the exploring of the world was going on and colonies were being started by all the various super powers of the time (SPain, England, etc) the Vampire and Lycan populations realized that they too would do better in a place all their own or at least find a place to allow for the spreading of their populations. In an unprecidencted and unrepeated venture, Vladamir Dracula called upon the leaders of each of the other supernatural races of Europe, Richard Greckovitch of the lycans, and Mariana Petree of the wiccans, to come to a meeting of the minds to discuss the possibility of creating colonies of their own. The meeting was tense but with the knowledge that they were all in trouble if the population of the area continued to grow at its current rate of increase, they decided to proceed with making a plan. In the end, there were ten monumental meetings of the races and the final plan was met with approval.
Each group funded three ships of brave souls to set out together, thinking that nine ships would be able to stand up to any enemy that they might come upon. The vamp ships would have humans for not only food, but also for running the ship in the daytime, and the lycans would also have some humans for food sources and such things. Only the wiccans were pure in their ship crew and passenger population. They set out by ship heading east across the ocean.
The first days and weeks went well and the groups were optimistic. However, as the ocean going seamen across the centuries could have told them, the sea is a tempermental mistress. A storm came upon them and they lost their course. During the storm, they had lost one of the vampire and wiccan ships to the storm and one of the lycan ships to lightening starting a fire. After the storms past, wreckage was seen around the remaining ships, and amazingly enough a few survivors were able to be saved. Each spoke of people under the sea that rescued them. Tales of merpeople that were curious about the races and their purpose in traveling across the sea spread rapidly through the remaining ships. From time to time, there would be a sighting of what was thought to be a human torso above the waves watching or a merman keeping pace with the ships. There were only two ships of settlers of each group left lost upon the oceans.
Just when they had begun to run out of the supplies needed to survive, an island was spotted on the horizon. The soil and rocks were stained red with the mineral content of the clay that made up most of the island. They moved up to the island cautiously and sent out groups to explore it. There was nothing but lush vegetation and rocks. A valley with mountains all around it was especially lush and had a ready supply of fresh water from underground springs.
They didn't know their way back and decided to make the best of it and settled there making due with what they had. Over time, other ships found the island. If the ship was of humans they only found the island to be "haunted" or "cursed". Not everyone found it to be frightening, those of the supernatural heritages found it welcoming and often stayed behind when their shipmates left. The population protected their new home from those that might harm them.
In fact, Red Valley, as it began to be called, became a haven for those of supernatural origins. For several generations it went fine, then the population became bigger and the age old rivalry took hold once again and war broke out thinning the supernatural population. However, the human population, protected by both groups as it was a needed food source, grew. Now, Red Valley has a wide variety of supernatural beings that call it home. It is still a haven for those of inhuman bloodlines, but it is not necessarily a safe place to live due to the rivalries that still run strong between the races.
